I did this photo series, Lucky Me 🙂, this year during my second trip to Japan. I was intrigued by all this “kawaii” characters and mascots that you can find in everyday life. They were like my “guides” during my stay and my entry ticket to discover a fun and colourful side of the Japanese society. These characters are a childhood reminiscence (the famous Hello Kitty), but also a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional yokai (spirit creatures present in folklore and art). At some point, the daily objects became also a character in itself.
